Ok;
So i've just recieved 1x Highpoint Rocketraid 2320 - PCI-E Raid Card; and 3x 500gb Hard Disks for a nice Raid 5 setup...

Built the machine; installed card - connected the disks; and booted...
Once i made it into bios & did some configging; after rebooting... nothing.
no post, no beeps...

Most bizzare thing... all of the keyboard lights blink... seems to be no pattern to it...
I've heard thats used under *nix to indicate kernel level errors; could the raid card be attempting to do something similar - googling didnt return anything of interest :s

Full spec:
3200 AMD 64-bit
4x 256mb DDR (2 Corsair - 2x Hynix[tried swapping this all out/around - no change])
ASROCK 939 Dual - Sata2 thingeh;
PCI - GForce4 MX
3x 500gb 7200.10s - 1x IDE WD 20gb, 1x IDE LG DVD-RW; [Swapped/Unplugged all these too]...
500w FSP Blue Storm PSU

Dropping the raid card makes it work - I have a couple of theories: - can boot into windows etc.

1) just incompatability between board & raid card - the AGP & PCI-E Thing... who knows...

2) Doesnt like being in an 8x PCI-E slot... not that it *should* make any odds, but with the above... hell who knows...

3) DOA Card?

Just confirmed that the raid card works;
Put it in this rig, and its fine - although admitedly in a 'proper' 4x slot.

So im leaning towards some sort of compatability thing...
Oddly; a cmos reset on the fileserver seems to bring up the bios... but even only changing the data & saving causes it to loop into error :s.

Next things to try are Bios updates I guess :confused:

The RocketRAID cards can be weird little sods at times, I had great fun getting mine to go. I had to flash the RAID BIOS and set a couple of options to get mine to boot, although I managed to get as far as booting Windows before it decided to break something.

There are a few advanced options in the BIOS flash utility, next to the Open button there's a Config button, hit that and in the next window disable the EBDA Reallocation & the Int 13 support then go ahead and flash the card BIOS. Alternatively press the End key as soon as the blue BIOS splash screen comes up, it does the same thing.

A Flash of system & Raid card BIOS seems to have done the trick.

Havent tried the End/Reallocation stuff yet.

Also found the really tiny jumpers seagate ship to limit the disks at Sata150, and removed 'em.

Web interface for the raid card is up and working; and appears ok...
About to try setting up the array.
