Right, so I bought myself a new rig at the back end of last year (First self build) but didn't really put too much into the peripherals, but with Christmas out of the way, the time has come for me to update my 7 year old Dell(lol) setup.

Essentially, I have a budget of around £160-£200 for both, but I'm not massive on using them to game as I prefer a controller, although that may change if I get a decent setup.

I'm a little(VERY) confused by the differences in keyboards, ie switch colours and the like, so I really need some advice on what I should be looking for really.

The game I play most on my keyboard is DayZ, with the occassional RTS, but I want something that's going to last and have been told mechanical is the way to go.

cheers!

Cherry switch types:

Red is generally considered best for gaming, brown seems to be a good all-rounder and blue is perhaps best for mostly typing, less so for gaming. These are simply my opinions from reading several sites, I'm a bit like you and just starting to look into a mechanical keyboard to replace my Logitech G19.

Ducky Shine 2 ( DK9087 ) is what I like the look of, I don't need a numerical keypad.

I've got a Filco Majestouch 2 and the thing is built like a tank. Can see it lasting me for many years. I've gone with Red switches, and do fatfinger a few letters here and there. They seem pretty good for FPS and RTS games.

If I could I'd swap it for one without the keypad (tenkeyless) as I don't use it and means my mouse is a bit too far away. Still very happy with it though.

Ducky Shine 3 tkl will match your majestouch 2 :D

In regards to Mice, I've looked at the G500s and the Razer deathadder, are there any others in that sort of range that will do the job?
