Keyboard & mouse random disconnects

Over the past week or so I've been experiencing random disconnects with the keyboard & mouse. If I then plug another device (memory stick) into the same USB socket (USB 2.0), that works fine. Plugging them into another socket does nothing. Mouse sensor flashes on and off in a lazy fashion. Rebooting windows will bring the K&M back again (used a logitech wireless mouse to gain back control and reboot).

Windows 10 (up to date)

Cleared the system event log to check that next time. Any other suggestions/ideas appreciated.

Ok, so I tried another mouse in the same socket after the disconnect and that too didn't work (though lit up). I then took the original mouse & keyboard and plugged them into the front (case) usb's and they worked fine again. Just now starting to wonder if this is a hardware issue, namely either the PSU or motherboard randomly dropping the power output to the built-in USB sockets?.
