Keyboard Nerds....I need you ;)

stupid question but how would i tell if i had a mechanical keyboard or something else not sure what the physical difference is  i have a razer arcosa, the keys are loud imo soft and wobble about it does feel pretty cheap so im guessing its not a mech,

The arcosa is a rubber dome keyboard, so no mech. :)

100% contact Logitech , they have some of the best customer support around they bent over backwards to help me with a keyboard i had problems with and replaced it when it was out of warranty.

I agree with this. if you don't mind going Logitech again get in touch with their customer support (via email rather than phone as I had no joy over phone). My G35 headset just snapped apart outside of warranty. Over the phone they just gave me a 50% off code but via I sent them an email saying I expected a headset they were charging that much for to last a lot longer and they issued an RMA and it was all sorted out. Nothing to lose really and it may avoid having to spend on new keyboard for a while longer.

ahh well i'll make sure i look for a mech next time then i'd have to try one in a pc shop first to get a idea if i'd like it or not i guess.

I have cherry reds, and i can tell you i regret not getting browns or blues. I'll probably go blues when i get another. I'm hardcore gamer btw.

Can I ask why? I currently have Browns but think in my head I would prefer Reds, so its really interesting for someone to state the opposite.

Pop a keycap off. If it's a rubber membrane underneath then it isn't mechanical. If it looks like this underneath then it's a cherry mechanical switch of some sort (depends on colour)

DASKeyboard.

Can't get it from OcUK, blue switches I'm pretty sure and feels very nice to type on with a nice noise.

If you need lit up maybe blackwidow ultimate, but if you play games a lot I doubt you'd need to ever look at your keyboard

+1

Got an Ultimate S and i'll never be going back.

Just go for a cheap sidewinder x4, will do the job won't it? Saves you £100...don't understand this mechanical nonsense, most of it seems to be down to preference, expensive preference...

If a job is worth doing, do it right.

Mechanical (Proper brands) keyboards are of superior quality and will last a very long time with consistent and accurate keystrokes.

There is tangible benefit to mechanical switches, the choice of colour is the preference. There is absolutely no denying the benefits of mechs over rubber dome.

Who does not prefer to have superior equipment?

Can anyone give a detailed difference between the Qpad Mk-80 vs 85?, from what I can tell it's the type of switch used, macros and full roll over. The 80 is more affordable for me, I need to replace my Razer Reclusa I've had for ages. Tried to google but couldn't find anything than a old OcUk thread with two posts :(. Was going to invest in a logitech G600 for Guild Wars 2 but I really need a new keyboard.

As far as I remember the MK85 offers full N-Key rollover via USB instead of PS2 and also has programmable macro. Pretty sure that's it.

If you order from Qpad directly you can choose which types of switches you want anyway.

Thanks, Ps/2 shouldn't be a problem and I've never used macros even on my current board. I'll probably stick with blues,.. pondering if I should order now since ocuk have 4 left :(

It's just pressing a button. I've never had any problem with rubber dome keyboards tbh. The only time a keyboard irritates me is if it can't handle too many button presses at once. I get that loads of people 'can't go back', but I've never had any problems with rubber domes and particularly on a laptop, I'd never want a loud keyboard

You stick with your "Just pressing a button" and steer well clear of Mech. discussion then.

I've installed the 40A-L (0.2mm Reduction) Cherry MX Rubber O-Ring Switch Dampeners to all of my keys now and the noise reduction is very noticeable. It sounds a lot more like a conventional dome keyboard now because you have that rubber contact whilst keeping the nicety of a mech. switch keyboard. Only cost about £10 to do it all too.

I'd recommend them!
