hi all, I just got a PC from a friend and it works fine apart from i cant access the bios because it doesnt seem to recognise my keyboard, or any other one i plug in. They all work fine in windows, but i cant access anything from the splash screen. Anyone had this problem before ?

it is a gigabyte Z77X-UD5H motherboard, and ive tried a razer deathstalker keyboard, microsoft reculsa and a generic dell usb one

there are no PS/2 sockets on the mobo

So you can successfully press DEL to enter the BIOS, but after that the keyboard does nothing?

Does the mouse work?

nope, cant press anything, so i cant access the bios at all. The splash screen stays up for ages which makes me think its looking for a keyboard

mouse lights up, as does the keyboard but doesnt seem to do anything

Hmmm,.

ClearCMOS (pull the battery out with it powered off for a bit) refit and try then.

Very weird not familiar with the board or bios but if usb keyboard has been disabled in the bios if thats even an option since no ps2 port, the only thing I can think would be to fix it is resetting the bios by taking the battery out, or using a jumper switch to do it.

Have u tried all the ports only thing I can think of is ur friend turned off partial usb thing in bios which can speed up boot times which would stop the motherboard using the usb's before windows

Tried all the ports, tried clearing CMOS and same problem. Once the splash finally goes away it boots into windows in a few seconds and keyb/mouse work fine. Wierd :/

Disconnect all drives and any USB drives.

Then try getting into the BIOS.
