keyboard not working

so I just took my laptop apart and when i came to putting the keyboard cable back in, in wouldn't go all the way in (i'm presuming it needs to go further, there is a faint black line and it doesn't reach that) and i can't close the little latch thing properly, however it closes fine when the cable isn't in.

Now the strange thing is, it shows up in device manager and it says it is working correctly...what should i do!?!?

i've tried taking it apart and putting it back to together loads of times now and it still doesn't work

still not working, in device manager, under keyboards there is two: HID keyboard device and ps/2 compatible device, i turned the computer on with no keyboard plugged in and hid keyboard was gone, plugged it in and it was back.

i think this has got something to do with not being able to close the lock thing properly, is it worth getting a new keyboard? i don't want to spend money on something that isn't going to work
