Keyboard problems linked to power issues?

About an hour ago I realised I couldn't do Right Shift and / to get a question mark. Found other key combinations did it as well. I had this before on an old PC (w/ same keyboard) and I managed to wiggle the front panel USB connecter and it disappeared.

Restart the computer, whack the side off and try the same but when I started my computer up it didn't post and only came up with a green rectangle in the middle with a flashing pink circle in it. Turn it off again and I removed my second harddrive and it booted, got to the log on screen and the screen is flashing between the log in box and bad password, like the enter key was stuck down. Another keyboard problem.

While the computer is booting up, or trying to in some cases. The speaker sounds like it's doing lots of little bleeps. The manual says that's a "power error". Take the overclock off and it boots up fine with both my harddrive and SSD.

So now my question, is my power supply dying? And is that also what's screwing with my keyboard?

TL;DR

  • Keyboard being is dodgy.
  • PC speaker is giving "power error" error
  • Is my 8 month old PSU dying?

Thank you.

Edit: To add, as the Gigabyye spash screen comes up the standard single beep is still there. It's just after that screen that the shorter ones happen. Getting to windows is also now random. If I reset the BIOS I can get here, otherwise I can't.

Edit 2: If I just leave it trying to load while clicking it will say "BOOTMGR image is corrupt. The system cannot boot."

If it runs fine without overclocking then I think you've found the solution :D

After re-reading it seems you still have problems.Does it boot ok in safe mode? Can you try a repair using the windows cd? Try swapping out ram modules. What are the voltages like in the BIOS? (not a great way to tell but without a multimeter it will have to do)

Ha. Well I solved part of it. When I managed to get to windows my keyboard was acting like I was holding down enter until I pressed another key. It also did it while it was booting and I didn't realise it would cause this much damage until I tapped Tab as I started it up to look at the POST.

I'm hoping to god that it's just my keyboard that's broken. Gonna be a pain in the ass if its something else.

Thanks for the help. :)

/Sigh

It's been 3 hours and I just found my Enter key was stuck down. Still got problems. That overclock is the problem. I don't understand why though, it's been stable for 6 months and temps never reach 50c. I can't seem to boot with my second harddrive in either. Somehow though, it boots in IDE when Windows was installed under AHCI. Is it possible to go AHCI to IDE but not visa versa?

Edit: Looks like the second drive is the problem. At least now I can get into windows. When I have the second drive in with AHCI on it just stops booting at "Loading Operating System..." If I have it in with IDE it just restarts before that part and loops. Back to google I go.
