I know this is a silly question. But after installing Win8 on my Win7 PC my keyboard no longer maps the upper case keys properly (@ and " translate as " and @ etc)

I have had this issue before on earlier systems and ISTR that I need to set an alternative keyboard layout. The trouble is I do not seem to be able to find the relevant options/settings menu.

I would be grateful if somebody could point me in the right direction.

Cheers

Try set the layout to UK Extended, in desktop mode it should show the layout options next to the clock

Thank you for prompt reply. I knew that was the solution, I just couldn't find the option.

The reason why is that Microsoft, By some logic that remains incomprehensible to one such as I, had listed the "UK Extended Keyboard" option well away from all the other "English" options right down at the bottom of the list, between the "Turkman" And "US Arabic" options! right where one might expect to find it!

Anyway, all solved! Cheers :)
