hi all,

My job involves a lot of typing and the standard £4 dell keyboards at work are rubbish, filthy and have 50% of the letters missing so I want to buy my own.

Can anyone suggest one that really suits typing lots of text, I find normal keyboards force me to twist my wrists too much. I've also been looking at Dvorak keyboard layouts but it seems the best bet is buying a normal and reconfiguring it.

So, something I can change the keys on, usb, comfortable to use and doesn't cost a fortune would be great :D

Because I want to try the dvorak keyboard layout as its supposed to be faster and easier on your hands. I've a bad left wrist that keeps flaring up after I've spent 9-10 hours typing. I thought that was fairly easy to understand in the original post?

Matias, who make Mac accessories do a hardware switchable Dvorak keyboard. Though it's rubber dome, not Alps switches like the Tactile Pro 3 they make. Google "matias dvorak keyboard".

Not really. I hadn't realised it was supposed to be easier on the wrists. It's still a keyboard and you are still typing... can't understand how it would ease pain. Not to mention you would have to re learn how to type, seems a bit silly considering your job requires you to type a lot. It would take days to get out the habbit of using a qwerty.

If typing is making your wrists flare up, maybe you're in the wrong job or need some ibuprofen.

Thanks I will check them out.

As I am quite broad when I sit at a desk I have to twist my wrists 45' in order to use a normal keyboard, an ergonomic keyboard allows your hands to stay straight in relation to you arms.

Learning to type would take me a weekend to get used the new keyboard, and a week to get back up to full speed. Plus the new layout is faster than the QWERTY one so it would be interesting to use. If it really is a faster and better keyboard layout, makes sense to at least try it out. We shouldn't just use something because its the norm :)

Microsoft make "ergonomic" keyboards, one of the guys at work used to swear by them.
They are QWERTY though and split the keys into two large sections, angled towards each hand. Cheers
