Hi guys,
I've worn out my current keyboard and I'm looking for another...
OCuk have got some nice ones so I was wondering if you guys could suggest some that are suited to my needs.

I write a lot and I write it fast so I need a keyboard which is comfortable and durable for typing.

I'm not a hardcore gamer but I do game often, although the games I play aren't really keyboard-bashers so the keyboard should be gamer-friendly but it is not essential that it looks like it's been on pimp-my-keyboard.

It can't be huge, when I find my tape measure I'll tell you the keyboard space I've got exactly.

Thanks in advance

Tig

SpeedLink Ultra SL-6465 Flat Metal Keyboard (KB-000-SL) sold @ OcUK is the keyboard i have used since December.

An excellent and very durable KB it weighs enouth to keep it in one place and has shown no signs of wear etc.
The flat keys make typing and gaming a pleasure and the cost at just over 20quid is nothing in my opinion.
If i had known it was going to be this good i would have got the illuminated one.
I love the way your fingers slip over the keys without snagging your fingers and this is even in hardcore gaming sessions.
A great KB :)

Thanks for the info, I did like the look of that one and I do enjoy the feel of a laptop-slippy keyboard, plus it's not square which will look nice on my curvy glass desk.

Looks and feels great with the curves round the edge and the Ally look.
It's suprisingly slim for a media type KB aswell. When installed all the media buttons worked instantly with no set up but best of all is the actual feel in use. The pressure needed to activate a key is just right for me and not to sensitive.
I think i am best qualified for wear and tear tests though as my sig says i am pretty hardcore when it comes to my gaming and somewhat of a spammer on the quiet ;)

Hey,
I don't suppose somebody can tell me the dimensions of the SpeedLink Ultra SL-6465? They're not listed on it's descriptions or in it's reviews.

Thanks in advance.

Length = 42mm
Width = 16mm at widest part
Height = 2.25mm with legs not down.

No it's the Smallest keyboard in the whole wide world. :p
Sorry it was late. :)

Please add a zero where needed.

Hi,
You looked at the Hiper Clavier Keyboard, its small, has laptop style keys and comes in black.
Its nice been using mine now for a few months, no probs in games etc.
You can use USB or PS2 connection.

Mate, if you type a lot like I do, then get a IBM Model M Keyboard or equivilent. You will never find a keyboard quite as durable or comfortable ever again. Designed in the age where input devices were ridiculously overengineered, its a heavyweight at 2.2kg and is about as loud as being trapped in a tunnel with a freight train. I own one thats 16 years old and although its loud, heavy and beige/grey, its the best keyboard I have ever used and would not choose another.

Unless I was concerned about noise:

Other keyboards I'd recommend include Cherry Keyboards with the gold plated MX keyswitches. The Deck keyboards have LEDs in the keys, and use similar MX keyswitches, and as this doesn't include a numberpad, its a lot more compact than the other two.

I own 2 IBM Model M Keyboards (fairly rare UK key layout) and also 3 Cherry MX keyswitch keyboards. The curious thing is I only have one computer :p

All i can say is

Enermax Aurora Brushed Aluminium Keyboard

I love mine,

Its the best keyboard by far that i have ever owned, and i have had a lot lol

Been through near enough the entire logitech range, from the cheapo's to the bluetooth mx5000 and dinovo.

You can find it here.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Keyboards.html

for £58 plus pnp.

It really is a quality keyboard, the finish on it is amazing, and you even get a supplied cleaning cloth, :p

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I have a keyboard space of ~18.5inches so the SpeedLink Ultra SL-6465 fits perfectly, thanks for the dimensions Malc30.

I've had a look at the IBM Model M Keyboard but I was hoping for a slightly prettier more modern style really :) Besides, I think I have one of these up the loft.

The Hiper Clavier Keyboard looks good and it's pretty, the only problem is that it's gapping is small between keys due to it being quite compact and at 38cm it's smaller than the Speedlink which is 42cm.

I also took a look at the Cherry Keyboards but they're weird! Am I looking at the right ones? They look like they should be inside a UFO. I don't fancy learning a new layout keyboard.

The saitek eclipse sounds popular but it kinda looks weird and big, not sure whether it's shape will fit on my glass keyboard-space. What's its dimensions?

I think I'm leaning toward the Speedlink still, it's small but not too small, it's not square and it's purty but doesn't try too hard :)

EDIT: Thanks for the suggestion Datamonkey, the Enermax does like nice and everybody sings its praises. Could be the choice for me but I'd get the silver one to go with my silver monitor and Lian Li case.

Okay guys, sorry for the double post but I needed to bring this thread back from the "2nd page of death" :)

Anyway, I'm torn between the Enermax Silver and the Ultralink illuminated silver.

There's a massive price difference so it leaves me to think whether there is a reason. Is there anybody who's had both of these keyboards who can give me some insight into the differences? Also, what's the length of the Enermax?

Thanks again in advance

EDIT: I've now bought the illuminated Speedlink because it's got the brushed aluminium silver finish, it's curvy, compact but not too small and a lot cheaper than the Enermax.

How does it feel? Are you able to touch type fast on it?

i was planning to get the Saitek Eclipse after reading some reviews but they are releasing a newer version of this keyboard (Saitek Eclipse II) which should be out soon..
