Hi,

I'm thinking of upgrading from my sidewinder X4 to a mechanical keyboard, but i'm struggling to decide which one. Cherry reds seem like the best switch choice for me, other than that its difficult to decide which brands are reliable and what extra features are really needed.

Ideally i would like back lights and media keys, however there not deal breakers. price wise up to £120-150 is acceptable.

So, any suggestions?

Thanks

IMO, a cherry red keyboard is a cherry red keyboard. My decision was made by saying "what do I like the look of" and "Do I need loads of extra macro keys". My decision was a Corsair K70, but ended up getting the K65 because it was cheaper and I rarely used the num pad. I like the single bent bit of aluminium with the key caps on top, that was my main deciding factor!

Right now, I'd probably go for the Corsair Strafe RGB, it looks good, has the right keys and the back lighting is apparently great.

I went from an X4 to a Logitech G710 with Cherry Browns. I then changed to a Ducky Legend with Cherry Reds. Both good for different reasons. I've stuck with the Ducky though.

The Ducky legend has media keys, as did the G710.

I have the Corsair K70 and love it. I use the Numpad daily and I am a big fan of the way the media keys are set up, especially the volume scroll wheel.

I haven't use any of KB with cherry reds, though I will say the Cooler Master Keyboards with Cherry Brown are excellent as well, got a Quickfire XTI that is amazing. 1

I love my K95 RGB :) got it on offer. I still haven't found a use for the macro keys, but they're there if I ever figure out how to use em XD

K95 RGB is a little pricey but definitely worth it. I got one last week with a £100 gift voucher from here and frinted the extra £70 myself. Replaced a Logitech G110.

Such a beautiful keyboard and works a charm.

I was exactly same as post #2, having had all the macro keys and backlight before, i realised i hardly felt the benefit. So, i went for a 'less is more' approach and found the K65 is what i liked the best.

Just a word of warning if you haven't tried a mechanical keyboard before... the clicks and noise you get can be very off putting for some. I couldn't handle it myself and went back to membrane style. I just find the noise WAY to distracting for any use, even with headphones on. It's very much a personal thing, as obviously plenty of people get on fine with them... but if you have any friends who own one, you'd be best to try before you buy. Not that returning is an issue if it comes to that. :)

K70 RGB Cherry red here with them 'O' rings fitted. I'm in heaven. I found the strafe keyboard colours way too bright personally. (yes I know they're dimmable)

thanks for the suggestions guys, the K70/95 look pretty attractive to me.

I'm not sure if id actually use the Macro keys on the K95 yet i cant shake the feeling that if I don't have them id need them at some point.

Regarding the RGB features, how customisable are they and how unwieldy is the software.

Also are the O-rings worth using straight off the bat or are they some thing to be looked at after using the keyboard for a while?
