Keyboard USB port issue

Yesterday the USB port on my keyboard decided to stop working when I plug my iPhone into it. This is bizarre because it's always been connected before and worked fine, and it works fine with USB memory sticks etc.
Is there a setting that I've messed up somewhere?

I've just tested my mouse in the USB ports on my keyboard and it works fine, and the iPhone USB cable works fine when connected directly to my iMac.

The USB port on the Apple wired keyboard is only USB 1.

If the iPhone works direct to the iMac then I'd assume the USB bus is saturated on the keyboard and is causing intermittent lag.

Any other USB devices plugged in to the iMac?

Aren't the usb ports on mac keyboards notorious for not supplying enough juice?

I've often found memory sticks don't work most of the time or occasionally work out of the blue. It's strange it's worked for you before though and as the iphone is self powered you wouldn't have thought it would cause an issue.

But how come it's worked without a problem since I got my iMac back in 2009 and now it's suddenly decided to stop?

I have a USB hub connected to the back of the iMac, the only other things connected are the mouse to the keyboard, and keyboard to the iMac.
