Hi

What is a good keyboard for a beginner that can be connected to the computer dont want to spend over £200 really. Have read about midi controllers etc... but dotn have a clue what these are. I currently have a Yamaha PSR-GX76 but I find the keys to wide, any ideas?

Thanks

The idea behind a controller keyboard is that you connect it to your computer via either USB or MIDI (musical instrument digital interface), once this connction is made you use the keyboard to play sounds downloaded onto your computer, usually in the form of plugins. The downside to this is that you need to have a computer to actually get any sound, the controller keyboard on it's own does nothing else, it's just a controller. The plus side of this is that you then have access to a huge range of sounds, not just typical keyboard sounds but drums, sound effects, or literally anything if you start looking at samplers. Regular keyboards should also be able to do this providing they have mini in/out ports.

What do you mean you find the keys too wide? On most keyboards/pianos the actual width of the keys will be very similar, not including boards like the micro korg/moog synths which are much smaller.

I find it near impossible to do hand techniques that I see when trying to practice, like i have to use two hands to do it, thus not allowing me to do the song correctly. I dont have small hands by any means.

heres an example I was trying to do this

I cannot do the first thing he does with one hand (E, B and B), his keyboard also seems to have much narrower keys then mine.
