I have recently rediscovered the stock apps and am enjoying their optimisation on my iPhone Xr (my main device, also have Apple TV & Watch). This got me to thinking about my password manager, Enpass. I currently store all my password, login and secure information in an Enpass vault synced to iCloud. However, I always tend to consider redundancy - what if the app goes belly-up, or the licensing agreement changes and requires further payment and/or subs, affecting access. Also, I feel that Keychain, like other stock apps, is better optimised on iOS and so quicker and smoother.
As Keychain and Notes are built into iOS, it’s unlikely these are going anywhere any time soon. I understand Keychain is end-to-end encrypted and I believe the locked Notes are too, as they are not recoverable if the password is forgotten.
What are people’s thoughts on keeping usernames/passwords in Keychain and other login/sensitive information in locked Notes, such as related security questions?
The Notes would be much easier to edit instead of the Enpass database (adding/deleting fields is fiddly for recording email/server setups). I can also recover the data easily from iCloud.com in future if necessary. I would note that I have little need for cross-platform capability and I do not want to pay for any password managers if free solutions such as this are secure enough. Hope that makes sense!
