Keychain password manager vs 3rd party

I've been using Keeper for the last 6/7 years, i find it works really well with plenty of features and haven't had any real issues. Although, they have recently hiked prices up; you could get it for around £13pa with a discount code, it's now ~£30 with discounts codes :(

I think next year i'll start to look elsewhere, Bitwarden is a bargain at $10pa but the UI looks a little better with 1Password (if i can find a decent discount code).

1Password are raising their prices, luckily I renewed late last year, but I might move away later in the year before renewal, Apple Passwords looks tempting.
Anyone here gone from a 3rd party pw manager to Apple?

Increasing to $47.88, from $35.88

Yes, and I ended up back with 1PW. Apple passwords are fine for a basic user but they lack some features.

But, I don’t pay for 1PW, I’d be tempted to try another solution with the rises.

We renewed ours last September so have a bit of extra wiggle room to decide whether to renew at the higher cost or find someone else. A $12 increase is pretty insignificant when I think of it as just $1 extra per month - but it's still a really steep increase for them to do.

We pay $59.88 currently - which ends up being $71.82 after tax. So now it's going to be $86 after tax. Starting to get into the territory of not feeling totally worth it, even though I do really like 1PW.

I fall under the basic user I guess, the only thing with Apple Passwords i'm hesitant about is having all my eggs in one basket.

$47.88

£35

£2.91 a month.

I can still live with that, it's not worth my time to have to change to something else. My renewal was in January so it won't hit me until next year anyway.

I just think to me it’s not worth it now, I don’t even have that many logins and don’t use any of the other features 1p offers.

Do you know what the Apple alternative for 1p secure notes is, I presume it’s just the Apple notes app, using the lock notes feature?

I’m about to as I’ve chosen not to renew last pass.

You can add notes to Apple Passwords, or lock a note in the Notes app.

Im moving some across now, just to get started, I could export the logins, but haven’t got that many so I don’t mind manually entering them.
Passkeys for now I’m just adding new ones for apple password manager, and then I will delete the passkeys for 1p at a later date.

This is what I posted about Apple Passwords in Nov 2023, not sure if any of it is still relevant but it was enough for me to ditch it.

Apple Passwords is perfectly fine for the average user such as my wife (she prefers it over 1PW). But for someone who uses the extra features of a proper password manager it really starts to frustrate. The lack of ability to edit web addresses, add any meaningful data to saved items, no ability save service accounts/API keys without web addresses, and constantly having to use TouchID finally swayed it for me. As an example, if you go to a site which has a username, you require TouchID/biometrics for Passwords to input the username. If you then press next to get to the password page, it again wants biometrics to input the password. I also don't like how Safari locks the password field and you have to use the menu to unlock it, if for example it doesn't recognise the site, or it's suggesting a new password.

Thing with 1Password is if you use Safari it doesn’t use native autofill and the safari 1p extension is so janky.
It’s been like that for years, if they are going to bump the price up so much fix some of these things, for now I will be switching.

I agree its not too bad and it will be a ballache moving things. For me though it was just the way the email was worded and dropped ai into like ohh thats ok then :p

I've been using Bitwarden for years now. Also great for GPG and SSH keys along with short notes and other file storage. The price has gone up recently but $20 a year is fine by me.
