The coolers do the job on there now but I'm pretty much temp limited now In benches with the top one hitting 91c . Voltage seems to annihilate all my remaining headroom . There being thrashed to get to 91c admittedly. Is there anything other than going for a full loop to get temps down ... I'm trying to design a 120mm fan bracket that sits between the GPU's held by the holes left from the sideplates . But we will see how that comes ... Are there any AIO options for this card ?

It's worth having a read through the last 10 pages or so over in the GTX 980 owners thread. The SOC has mixed reviews, high temps and poor quality fans have been noted by a couple of members. I think most have moved over to EVGA cards due to there being no suitable aftermarket or AIO coolers for the SOC. The EK Thermosphere block will fit the card but you'll need to rig up something to cool the VRM/MOSFET.

I had one and is was a great clocker , it got a little warm, but under control. Then one of the fans started rattling when it was warm [so most of the time] so it went back for a refund. It is a shame because it was a good card for the money, £400 at the time of purchase.

I can see where you are coming from temp wise but with my KFA2 980 SOC (also grabbed at £400) it does a much better job at cooling now that I have used adaptive sync. I know that limits it to 60fps but that is fine as it is then synched to the refresh rate of my monitor.
I don't overclock it too much though as it tends to be fine for my needs at 1440p with what I game with.
When I had a Coolmaster CM 690 III case it was cooler with the side of the case off. Now I have a NZXT Phantom 630 Ultra case and that has a massive side fan and so it seems to have the same effect. Also there is provision to fit a fan to one of the internal drive bays to blow air across the GPU if I would need to. This is something that you have mentioned you might need to consider to do......

Overall I'm very impressed with the KFA2 980 SOC for the price that I paid. There are cooler options but not at the £400 it cost me. Thankfully the fans on mine have been without noise or problems and there is zero coil whine.

Spot on, looks good but once it arrives massive disappointment :(

Use a 200mm side fan, cooled mine right down.

^ bought one of those from OCUK it's not too bad but after a while of gaming it just circulates the warm GPU air unless you have vents on the side of your case, where as I have a window

Thanks for the suggestions guys , currently rocking it in an air 540 also and have tried ghetto fan placements to avail as said it just circulates the hot air . The cards are fast , 1600mhz is attainable , I reckon even higher with better cooling , sitting at top of most 3dmark bench tables for FS benches . I don't wanna get rid as they are monster clockers . My fans whilst arnt as good as the DHS 780ti I had or my galax 970s , there fine and are only audible @ 80ish percent with a wooosh they just cool like a chimp tryna blow out a fire . Relatively happy with build quality . Temps with adaptive vsync or any form of frame lock obviously reduces temps massively . But who buys 2 980s to run @ 60fps ... I want all my frames regardless lol and in benches no can do with any form of v-sync . Also reduces input lag when off . Looks like I may have to concider full loop

I'm running 540 air too. I took the window out and replaced it with modders mesh, then bolted a Coolermaster Megaflow fan onto that, virtually silent and a 10° drop.

Had concidered this , however it's pretty much a show build as much as anything else so modding the Perspex isn't a go go for me personally ,
