Hi,

Today I received a nice new overclockers KFA2 GeForce GTX 970 OC Silent...

I turned my computer off, took the old gfx card out (an msi 6950) and placed the new one in, making sure to plug in the extra 2pins for an 8pin and 6pin pci express power connectors.

Nothing on the screen. I looked in the case and did notice that only one fan on the card was spinning. I took the card out, used the mobo's onboard gfx and set my bios to defaults and tried again. This time I got the first bios screen (mostly a gigabyte logo) which stayed on there for ages and then it finally went to what looked like a tiny bit of the graphics card loading up (some text in the top left on a black screen) but this was corrupt, just a few random letters and numbers. It just hanged on this.

Since then I've put my old graphics card back in and it's all running fine as I type this.

I have a 600w ocz modular power supply, a gigabyte z77 d3h with an i5 3570k currently not overclocked since resetting the bios. When I was testing I unplugged 2 hdds and left 2 ssds plugged in, along with 4 case fans and the cpu fan.

What should I try next or are there enough signs that perhaps the card needs to be returned? I only tested the card's HDMI output. When it did display the bios splash screen, it was a good solid image, but it did nothing from there and I couldn't enter the bios.

Have you updated the BIOS to it's latest version?

I believe some of the newer cards require a BIOS update for it to recognise the card.

Not sure if this would definitely apply to you but it's a possible scenario.
