The reference 780Ti looks like it will clock well, even a 'bad' overlock will be at least on par with a 'good' 970 overclock (on paper at least). However, we don't know what the future holds with regard to driver optimisations.

And then you have dx12 comming into the mix, I'm about to go from my R9 280x to ANY nvidia card and looking at this. I'm wondering if this 3.5/512k split will change in dx12 games ?
 
The R3 series will be out soon even if you have your mind set on avoiding AMD cards I would wait too see what the knock on effect of their release has on the pricing of the current cards
