Well being the idiot that I am I mistaked 1600 for 1666mhz and purchased this 8gb (4gb x 2) kit for my AMD system, I believe this is for intel i7 etc. I want to run the ram at 1666mhz because that is close to what it is rated for but for some stupid reason if I set it to that with all the timings at what it should be 9-9-9-27-2T at 1.65v I get lots of errors in memtest on windows.

Is the problem with memtest the program because increasing the volts to 1.77v and 1.83v still gives lots and lots of errors. Can this ram really be that **** and not handle 66mhz overclock?

What should I do guys.

I assume you need 1666MHz to work with your overclock?

A lot of RAM these days has difficulty running at anything faster than it's rated specs.

I suppose with prices so low it's made to do what it says and no/very little more.

There's obviously no point in keeping on increasing the voltage, you seem to be just making it worse.

You could try running 1666MHz with looser timings and see where that gets you.

You may have to settle for whatever the next speed the BIOS will allow below 1666MHz.

If you wanted RAM guaranteed to run at 1666MHz then it would have been better to buy 1866MHz and downclock it.

Edit:

It may be counter intuitive but you could try reducing the RAM voltage.

I know it's a completely different platform but I've seen Sandy Bridge systems which wouldn't work at all with RAM at 1.65V but worked perfectly fine with it at 1.5V.

It must be worth a quick try.

What I don't understand is the system is not crashing or anything so maybe I should try a different program to test it.

I will try your tip and undervolt the RAM and see what happens.

wow loosening the timings to 9-10-10-27 @ 1T has pretty much done the job and I decreased the volts to just 1.71v.

As I was saying before I thought my system was stable but after time I did get programs crash and memory management blue screens.

So thanks for the tip to loosen the timing as that seems to have fixed it so far no more errors on memtest.

Now to see if I can add my 2gb 7-7-7-20 1333mhz ballistix or hyperx in the empty two slots and keep it error free. :p ;)
