Just sold my Kickr 1.

Loved it, but the whine from the flywheel especially at higher speeds is a little loud.

Need to buy a replacement.

Neo is quieter, and reacts quicker to gradient changes on zwift as it's magnetic.

Quality maybe not quite as high as Kickr, and has a stupid campag cassette ring even if you run a SRAM or Shimano cassette.

Kickr 2. A little quieter than kickr 1. Best support, maybe better build quality. Comes with a cassette and easy to change.

What do you guys think?

Shane Miller who is THE zwift guy in Aus recommends the kickr over the Neo if they are the same price. Noise maybe less of an issue here.

I used to use mine in the garage (joined to house by one wall) and my wife could hear it in the house.

I spent a long time deciding between the Kickr and Neo and went for the Neo. Both units were quieter than my KK so either way it was an improvement, but I gather the Neo is quieter. The bulk of noise from the unit is chain/bike noise. My carbon bike is noticeably quieter than my aluminium one so I put that down to the alu frame amplifying vibrations etc.

I settled on the Neo because it objectively offers the most road like experience. Road feel seems to largely come down to how much kinetic energy a trainer can generate to mimic the fact when you're riding on the road you are generating loads of it through the combination of bike and rider weight and your speed. That KE on the road is what keeps you going through the dead spot of your pedal stroke on the flat and what trainers struggle to replicate. That's why cheap magnetic trainers feel so unlike road riding, they have tiny flywheels that just can't generate the energy.

A comparison of various trainers (below) shows the Neo is better than the Kickr by some way, so it's more like riding on the road and gives you the best bang for your buck training wise. There's nothing worse than spending the winter on a turbo to go outside and find your 20 minute power is 20w lower because the turbo engages different muscles.

Interesting.

The Neo seems to be about 1060 online. Kickr is 999 with cassette and can be had cheaper. I've seen the noise comparison between the two kickrs and the new one is quite a bit quieter.

Need a halfords, Evans, or Ribble discount code! I have no discount at wiggle as I fell out with them for not selling SRAM overseas.

I thought the price difference between the two of them was more than that. With only ~£100 between them once you factor in a cassette then I'd definitely go for the Neo.

Assuming you can use it, you're welcome to my British Cycling monthly 10% off code at CRC. I've got no use for it. :)

Hi mate,

90% sure I'm going to get the Neo. CRC appear to have the newer models in stock which have a better fit for most bikes (I can't find a list of which bikes don't fit though!).

Wish I could pay in AUD on there like you can in wiggle. Computer says no when I try to pay in AUD for a UK delivery!

If you could email me the code that would be awesome.

Just sent you the code. There used to be a template which you could use to see if your bike would fit, it might be on the Tacx site? My Canyon was a really tight fit, didn't even think to check before I bought it so that could have been painful. :o

Awesome thanks.

Ordered the Neo, even if my wife wasn't impressed as she got me the Kickr. I'm sure she'll come around when she can't hear it over the TV in the other room!
