First off I'm not 100% sure if the is really the right forum to stick this on but its "game related" (So mods feel free to move it if you want)

But I wanted to give a shout out to a new kickstarter project I've backed called Gametee. They are making some pretty unique game related t-shirts, posters and mugs. I think the design's are simply amazing and they are updating new designs as stretch goals.
There are Half-Life, Halo, Dishonored, Final Fantasy, Nintendo and a few others.

The project has already succeeded on its funding but extra pledges means more designs and Hoodies (which are apprently coming in an update very soon)

Here is the link http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/888422079/gametee-premium-t-shirts-for-video-gamers

I'm not associated with this Kickstarter project at all. I just wanted to spread the word :D

Can only assume they have the relevant licensing, otherwise it's dead in the water.

They have the right idea though, I think if you're going to sell to more than a small number of people, it can't be as blatant as a Mario or Zelda logo etc, I certainly wouldn't wear anything like that. Make the clothes look like they belong in modern fashion first and foremost, and you've won 90% of the battle. The fact that the images and designs refer to video games is just an added point of interest for people that would care.

I could quite happily wear most of the designs shown there. Not enough to pay money at this stage, just saying it's a fine idea :p.

If I had that bath robe, I don't know that I'd be able to resist climbing out of my window and onto the roof while wearing it.

At the bottom of the OP's link:

Are these designs unofficial?

Yes! These designs are unofficial and not endorsed by the developers of the games they reference in any way. They are a way for fans to express and proudly display their love of a game in a subtle way. The designs are fair-use commentary on the original games.

Copyright?

We believe that our designs are covered by fair use, parodic commentary, and transformative copyright laws. The greatest care has been taken not to intrude on the developer's original intellectual property. Our designs work around that, referencing key moments or visual attributes from the game. Thanks!

Yea that's the one I'm looking to get :) and quite possibly the Black Mesa one. Funding has really vamped up. They are at £9203 so far with 25 days still to go  they only wanted £5000. So I'm really glad they are getting the interest.

They are also working on hoodies currently. So hopefully will see some hoodie design's soon :D

To be honest, printing t-shirts using IP belonging to others was never going to be legal - I don't think fair use covers making a profit based on interpretations of someone else's design. I may be wrong though, time will tell.

As I said above, other companies have managed it (ignore the Assassins Creed items though, as they are licences).

Perhaps items like those Shin-Ra t-shirts were using pretty much the exact logo in the game?

Of the games I've played, I fail to see how any of thos things could be copyright, afaik they're not logos used in the games, just 'inspired by'.

I got a message from Gametee, Square Enix where not happy with the Shinra t-shirts and mug prints. Apparently they have worked something out with Square Enix and the project will be back up shortly.

That must be bloody daunting though for a small company to get slammed by a massive company like SE.

Still should be back up soon :)

Yea I backed them. I went a bit crazy and got the 3 tees 4 prints and a mug.

I'm really impressed by the quality if I'm honest glad I backed them. I did email them saying they are working rapidly to try get the design's up on their website because you can't currently purchase the "backer t-shirts". I got some friends are extremely envious :p
