i have a belkin router F5D8636-4 v1
i have my main pc wired to it
and 5 others wirelessly connected to it, including 3 kids who abuse it, ie always on it
can i bar them with this router, or time them, but keep the others on.

alternatively can someone spec me an N router (bt) which will do the job
cheers

You should be able to add their MAC address (which is tied to their wireless card) to a blocked filter list. That will stop their access although not handy for timing or easily turning on and off etc unless the router allows that.

I think with the Belkin routers when you add MAC addresses to the filter list you can also specify times/days that the address is allowed to access the net.

Most have an access list feature with some degree of control.

Upon looking at your router's setup pages it seems that "Client IP Filters" will perform the task you are requiring.
Block both TCP and UDP traffic and it should work as long as the DHCP leases don't expire (which they usually don't on home networks tbh).

Edit : This is basic functionality on this router though, a lot of routers provide a lot better degree of control. Look into Netgear or Cisco (linksys)

I tried looking on DD-WRT router database but sadly yours is not supported.
I would suggest you invest on another router e.g linksys.

I would move away from the Belkin router and go for something like a Netgear DG834GT with custom firmware.
