After some advice.

My 9 year old loves Roblox, i've set her up an account on my PC. She loves it, chats away to herself while playing. I do monitor the account closely.

She's asked if she could have a camera for Christmas as she wants to create her own youtube channel of her playing and chatting about the game. Its crazy to see how quick she's picked up WASD and mouse acceleration w I'm considering it as it think it could be quite a creative thing to do. We only limit her to an hour at time 2 - 3 times a weeks. So the upload would be straight forward, have an intro and end etc.

Whats the best way to do this? I was hoping to use twitch play back recorder as there will be a window at bottom with her face playing. I've used twitch in the past to understand how it works... But notice you must be 13+, is there any private mode she can use and we download and edit after?

@[TFU] Thegoon8 My daughter is 8 and loves Roblox etc too, she's been watching youtubers play Minecraft etc since she was 4 or so on my tablet with me and has played her fair share of Minecraft with me too. I've noticed she narrates pretty much constantly when playing, does your daughter do that too? Can't just type into chat - also says it aloud and reads everything aloud too!

I've told her she can have a youtube channel when she's older, but if I did let her I'd put the channel comments on approved only and ensure I was the one vetting them..

Yes haha, she narrates everything she does! My plan was the just let her play for 30mins and save. Relook at whats been said/done and upload with an intro and end.... Be nice to spend creative time with her anyways!

Thanks for the all the replies guys, appreicate it.

I dare not introduce this to my 7 year old. :D

Haha. i'll be honest i'm getting like proper freaked out by it... Thought it was a good idea etc. But what if it becomes fairly successful.... there some sickos out there.... plus i'm worried about the "welcome to the internet"... See how it goes! I've asked her about nasty comments, she says she'll just ignore them "because they're jelous they dont have youtubes channel" haha

Its one of those things which always fascinates me about kids today, I remember when I was young how uncomfortable people were when on camera, you know, clamming up, actual stage fright etc. But kids today are increasingly growing up in a world of social media and facebook/Instagram videos etc and youtube and so on... kids are just so comfortable on camera today.

Watched it for a bit and its pretty good really, I see that she is effectively just narrating as she plays but its good that she speaks to the viewers, asks them how to say words and interacts etc. She seems to have whats needed to be a good streamer.

But as people above mentioned, there are an enormous amount of sick individuals out there and a young girl of this age (and for upcoming years of age) will be like magnets for them, so do be very careful.

But, dont want to end on a bad note, so well done to her !

Appreciate the kind feedback! Couldn't agree more about the kids on camera... Its almost like she's role playing other youtube kids she's seen! I was quite impressed when i first did a video, she just started talking and was off haha!

And yeah, 100% i've had a sleepless night contemplating taking the channel down! But for now, we'll just take it video by video!

I know one thing, I certainly would not post links to my sons youtube channel on a forum that can be seen by god knows who. Getting videos out or not this is a sick world we live in, especially at that age. But hey just my opinion.

Fair enough.... So i assume that you'll be banning them from all social media until they're 18? I get your sentiment, but surely its beneificial to guide/talk/manage them through the inevitable "sick world" they're going to face... So if I went on yours or your wifes facebook profile there wouldn't be a video or any pictures of your son no?

She's playing a game, with a small video window, the sicko's would have to have an IQ of 1 if they honestly thing an 8 year old could have set the channel up the way it has.... Dad's obviously watching!

Think the biggest problem these days is parents denial and attempt to hide them from the big bad world..... She's on youtube most days watching other kids play, reads the comments etc! I think this is both a life lesson under guidance and a creative way to express herself! Girl power and all that !

No m8, deleted facebook years ago as did the missus :) do people still use facebook. My 15 year old uses group chat with friends now on whatsapp or imessage. Seems facebook is finally coming to the end of its life span with the new generation. Thank god.

Problem with youtube m8 is this:

"View your list of public subscribers. Go to your Subscribers List by clicking Creator Studio > Community > Subscribers. You cansee your total number of subscribers at the top of the page. The list shows only subscribers who have chosen to share their subscriptions publicly."

Good luck parenting that.

I get your point about kids watching other kids videos etc, thing is I would rather they were watching some kid play a game then gid knows who watching them.

Again just my own personal opinion on it. Good luck with it though.

As it stand i'm just seeing how it goes and what she things of it, if she enjoys it i'll contine it with her!

C'mon, facebook will never die haha, you're certainly in minority and expeted that reply haha! Great way to store videos and pictures in order of life... i got 1000s of videos/pics marked as "only me"... 2FA on, granted not super safe, but better than in the cloud

Get her a pop cover or move the mic away from her mouth Tim.

Professional advice here ;)

Haha, i knew you'd pick up on that haha! I'm due to buy a new headset so will look at something!

My two also mess about with youtube videos, funnily enough daughter is almost exactly the same, chattering away playing roblox.

What are you using to edit the videos?

Really easy to do mate!

* OBS - For recording.
* GIMP free photoshop
* https://www.canva.com/ to finish the thumbnail
* Windows movie maker for quick edits.... its not every good

What happens in 4/5 years when kids at school find the videos she created from when she is 9? I can't see that having a good outcome.

So you're saying she should Pre-emptively deal with bullies by stopping what she loves doing now?

Great parenting tip.... i'll file it under "never use".

You can censor out nasty type comments in the settings when you upload a video. My two started there youtube channel last year only got a few videos on there, just did a Fortnite one which was fun. Last weekend we did a Pieface Canon Challenge which was hilarious. Ended up with squirty cream all over the garden, and us. (careful with your comments now!) just need to find the time to edit it and upload it. Also doing our own music video parody been filming it for about a year now only got 50% of the material done need to try and get the rest done this year. Been really good and its got a Star Wars sketch thrown in for good measure. Green screen work is so easy now compared to when I used to do it on my Amiga A1200.

Great. Will take a look at those settings!

She's the same, her and her friends are looking to do a pie face "challenge" and upload it as a video (with their parents consent ofc)

No I’m not suggesting your daughter does not make videos for this reason, you are making assumptions. Maybe file making assumptions under "never use".

Kids are vicious at that age, girls especially. I’m sure you wouldn’t want your daughter to be subject to any abuse from a video that was made many years ago. Even the most innocent comment or video can resurface in the future. I very much hope there isn’t any negativity but it would be advisable to keep it in the back of your mind.

At some point in her life she'll be subject to some kind of bullying..... She'll have control over what she does with the videos. If she came in today and ask for them to go away then i'd talk to her about why and remove them/channel. Easy. I will never teach her to give in to bullies, esspeically when its not even happened yet.

I've thrown a sub her way. Every little helps

Thank you pal! When she's got 10 million subs we'll remember hahah! Jokes, man dont think i could cope with that much attention haha!
