Whilst fiddling with things i probably shouldn't be :D i managed to physically set fire to this part of my 6800

.Anyone know what resistor/capacitor etc i have destroyed?

Could this be fixed possibly?

Sorry for the size of the pic but i had to use my phone as i have no batteries for my Camera and at lower res settings on the phone the damage wasnt that visible [not that its overly visible now

I'll take the card off your hands if it's a AGP card. I can fix it but need to know details of the burnt/damaged components.
I think he wanted to repair the card, not look for a buyer.

Either fix it for him for a fee (have proper soldering workstations) or buy it off from him for a few quid plus postage if it's a AGP card.

Yeh its PCI-E.

Wasn't a volt mod,it was a combination of me fitting a AMD HSF and clocking the bejeebus out of it.It was looking good for a while but died  .

I had to pull it out of the case while it was still on fire :D

it's not just the capacitor its the Ic below it that you've fried as well. you'll either have to source the ic or find another dead 8600gt and nab the bits off that.

I and many have did same when removing card from case, I broke legs of capacitor afterwards trying to get them set right so had to get new one with same specs, I soldered it back on no probs.

If its a volts mosfet it can run sometimes without as Nvidia tech staff have said in past, but it will put more strain on other ones the same, if it indeed does run without it.

Edit, I dont think its same part I broke, the ones next to it with white lines with slanted edges at top ( to right of yours) is what I broke it sits on little plastic part and is surface mounted.

its not a mosfet i dont think. A lot of current get's shunted thru that Ic otherwise it wouldnt have gone bang. Chances are, it's pretty important

Otherwise known as surface mount capacitors.

If it's an important regulator, you are risking potential failure of other components by switching on without it working. Easiest would be to read off the device number, then do a search for the part. With SMT you need someone that has the right tools for the work (ideally). Try to find a willing friend/person near where you live, for £10-£20 ( a very rough guesstimate)depending on how fair they are, they should be able to desolder/unglue the old part and put the new one on.
