I've managed to bend some pins on my trusty old 3500+, which I've had since S939 first emerged, and after struggling to get them back in place (with many expletives) I've given up and decided I might as well upgrade the thing.
Looking around at what's currently available, I thought the Opteron 180 looked like a good bet. Same default clock speeds as my 3500+ but am I right in thinking each core has an extra 512kb of cache?
I ran my 3500+ at 2420, which I believe is 3700+ speeds. How well do the Opteron's clock, and do you think it's worthwhile getting a more expensive one (Opty180 is ~£100) over a cheaper A64 dual core?
