Killer gaming network card

lol, someone doesnt care about reduced performance.

You can't be that much of an idiot....

Or maybe you can.

Your statement is not 100% factually correct in any way shape or form, so ellaborate on the instances in which onboard LAN can be performance degrading, or be branded a total smeg-head, like you are in Motors.

Never would I have imagined the day that I'd see someone call someone else a smeghead on an online forum!

Care to elaborate? My gigabit onboard nic on my P5KC certainly does not affect my performance in games... The gigabit cards these days onboard have dedicated processors to handle networking data you know.

If you still think otherwise then you're still living in the year 2000.

Well when I got my dfi board with 2 onboard lans (nvidia and marvell) both used 3%-6% cpu (4400x2) While transferring files. so if it uses such a high cpu to do that its something i dont need.

So i stuck in my trusty old gigabit card i bought when i got a decent switch and it dropped right back to 0 where it should be.

Onboard controllers should be avoided at all times, pci is so much faster. If you cant factor £10-30 in for a decent 10/100 or 100/1000 card your missing out.

Still a waste of time and money, you see litte gains if any and I tend to try not have cards all over inside of case blocking Airflow.

Onboard NIC's on modern Mobos are adequate and all you will gain is a slightly less CPU usage, your Speed and Ping are 99% to do with your ISP.

yeah because a a network card at the bottom is dead restrictive :/

Also onboard seemed flaky for me, pinging my router or other local ip should come back with <0ms everytime but it had the 1ms or 2ms blip everynow and then.

My gigabit card comes back with <0ms for hours.

I would never recommend getting this card but a a decent 10/100 card is highly recommended.

BS, Onboard is fine, you have an old 1GHZ Single Core CPU or something ?.

And a X-FI Soundcard sits in my Bottom slot as far away from GPU as possible due to IRQ's and airflow, even more so if I went SLI.

Your ISP controls Speed/Ping end of, all you could do to slow it down would be go through longer Cables/rounters/switches etc.

Your the only one here that thinks the above is the 2nd coming, you should start up a company with Pottsey now Nvidia sacked him. :p

P.S, I seen that type of card years back and every review also said it was a waste of time and money unless super rich and dumb.

Woah! When you guys said expensive, I thought you meant it was around £50 - not £180  It is one sexual piece of kit though.

2nd coming? No. I dont rate this product. I rate dedicated equipment though.

Onboard sound and lan is for budget systems, they should not be enabled in a performance rig

ZZZZ, I have a X-FI Fata1ty so the gain I get in that will make up fro my 20FPS Drop using my onboard Nvidia NIC

On the topic of cards being good to look at on one side and no the other, why do gfx cards have the heatsink underneath still, no point making it look decent if you cant see it!

I asked that years back so did a site, they had a GPU with parts on top and as heat rises its better.

It would have worked out for BX Format (now dead) and some peeps have them weird upside down Cases with fitting from opposite side panel from normal (not BX).
