Howdy :)

So yeah, many moons ago, long before L4D, my zombie killing action was fulfilled by a game called Killing Floor, a mod for UT2K4. The aim of the game was to survive wave after wave of zombies, monsters, witches - all the time getting progressively more horrific and deadly.

Now, the game has been rebuilt (using the Source engine, I think), and will be released on Steam :)
Whilst many of you will see it as a L4D rip off, it's a fantastic co-op survival horror, that many a time has had me swearing at my screen, frantically running away from iminent brain-eating.

So, keep an eye on it.. hopefully they'll release a demo, and hopefully it'll be cheap enough for L4D owners to seriously consider buying :)

*edit*

The game is now available for pre-purchase, for an awesomely low price of £11.24 :p
As soon as the Dedicated Server content is available, I'll be setting up an OcUK Killing Floor server, most likely replacing the OcUK TF2 server.

OcUK Community KF server added :)

It's currently at completely default settings, let me know if it's flakey or not!

password is hovis :)

*edit*

Added another server, this one is unpassworded :)

Wow, rocking stuff.

Just to add - the game is similar to survival mode in L4D but has more zombies and more players. Damn good stuff :)

I played an extremely early version of the UT mod, was a lot of fun and stupidly hard (l4d's difficulty would be beyond a joke compared) ... hope they kept that and haven't watered it down.

was a lot of fun and stupidly hard

yeah, it was pretty ridiculous how hard it was. So much more preperation and team communication required than in L4D. Trying to keep a door sealed whilst people shoot from the windows was so tense :p

Hey guys,

Been a bit of a lurker on these forums for a while now, thought i had reg'd back when I got my system off here, but oh well :)

I frequent the Tripwire forums so I thought I'd share any extra titbits with you guys. The feeling on the forums is that its going to be out late May though all the devs are saying is 'soon, very soon' the cheeky people that they are. Cost wise nothings been said apart from being a recession friendly price as you guys know, though considering TWI other release Red Orchestra was only $25,if i remember right, on full price release, so KF should be pretty reasonable. For all you shelf collectors there is no boxed version set for release so its just steam only, though the devs were still looking into it last month so who knows.

Don't really know much extra stuff about the game other than whats on the steam page and other articles. Some interesting stuff I saw on the IRC though is that the devs are aware that people will compare it to L4D, though as anyone who has played the mod will know it's a very different style, but at the same time they've looked into their own and other people's complaints as to how L4D could have been better and what (some)people want from a zombie game. And in terms of perks they are stuff like, if you heal people a lot you will eventually unlock, permanently, the medic perk that will make you heal faster/better but of course you'll need back up from your team mates in the later zombie waves who have more offensive perks and so on. (are perks in the mod? Never played it enough to find out)

Someone here said it was source but its rather Unreal Engine 2 though as you can see in the screenshots they really are stretching the limits of the engine so it doesn't look to bad for being 6+ years old. And on that note this isnt TWI GAME2/RO2, that has yet to be revealed and will be on the UE3 that they won from the Red Orchestra mod back in that day.

Oh also the devs did show a bit of interest on possibly taking community made maps into the game via steam update in the future, like they did with Red Orchestra last year, if theres any budding map makers out there ;)
