I already have L4D2. Is there are reason I should get Killing Floor and try to convert my friends (like zombies) to it?
Can people familiar with both games give the pros and cons of each? I'm interested in why one is more fun than another, or what the weaknesses of each are compared to the other.

KF is a bit different from L4D1/2. It's good, but I found it took me longer to get 'into' after L4D1/2.

I suppose the thing I didn't get was all the perks and stuff needed to get better aim etc, but once you start getting familiar it is pretty good.

KF is pretty good, but I don't think it has a versus mode (correct me if I'm wrong), which is where L4D excels.

Also, KF feels very much like the mod it is, where as L4D, although a mod in some sense, feels much more like a complete game.

Because they are exactly the same game? Jeez just because KF and L4D came out around the same time.

They are a completely different style of game.

Killing Floor is more focussed on killing the baddies than anything else (no story, no chapters etc) but it does that very well for a co-op game. Theres a big emphasis on headshots and theres no cheap way to escape if you're surrounded. So no spamming right mouse button to knockback. Its 100% against AI tho so theres no versus type mode.

Even on Normal difficulty it can be quite hard now depending on your team mates and how you play. Each game has a certain amount of rounds that get gradually harder and harder until a final boss at the end. A nice touch is that the game forces you to move around the map after each round so you end up having to defend in different positions and some places are better than others. It might take a few games before you get into it tho as it can be too hard or too easy sometimes.

Just don't go gung ho and try to defend in one place until towards the end of the round, and weld doors to slow them down

I find KF keeps my attention for longer as i'm playing, but I got bored of LFD quite quickly personally

Well the main difference is the method of play. On L4D, you travel from A to B four to five times to complete a campaign against humans or AI

Killing Floor is one map per game, with rounds/waves of zombies, increasingly stronger and in greater number, against AI only, buying weapons from a shop at the end of each wave. So there is more of an emphasis on defence, such as holding up in one area and welding doors. Team work is as important, if not more so at times, compared to L4D.

Killing Floor has the larger weapon variety too, with class based gameplay- the more you use a class, the better than class becomes, e.g. a medic becomes better at healing, and can purchase specific equipment more cheaply.

I can't say I prefer one over the other- they offer different types of experience. Given how cheap they both are, just get everyone you know to have both!

i like KF better due to the leveling system, 1 thing you may not like after coming from l4d it that levels are more 'stand n fight' rather then 'get here and close door' :)

I prefer Killing floor.

I've had more hours out of it than L4D, in fact I've only played 4 hours of L4D2. but I've had 20 with Killing floor.

It's all down to personal tastes but I didn't really like Left for dead 2.

better than L4D + L4D2 put together :p

I have way more time in L4D1 and 2 than n KF. Just need a few mates to get into KF again.

I've about 500 hours in L4D games and 35 in KF.

I played KF for a free weekend once - it was ok, but not enough of my friends played it, so I never bothered buying it. With a good squad, I can see how it might be a blast :)

Thanks for the informative answers, guys.

They are a completely different style of game.

All I knew about Killing Floor was that it was a FPS like L4D, in which the enemy was zombies, like L4D. I had a feeling they were different games, so I asked because I wanted to know how they were different.

As has already been said - they're both good and they're both different. I've had awesome games in both and probably have sunk a similar amount of time into each of them...

KF feels more like an actual horror-survival game. The huge waves of enemies and the team work required (in proper difficulty modes) to hold them off is awesome.

Caved and bought KF....had a solo blast on a few maps just now and I'm glad I bought it. It's a heck of a lot of fun, great soundtrack and the difficulty is definitely up there. Extremely tense stuff!

And it was a perfectly good and reasonable question mememe, dont worry about it.

I asked myself that same question before I bought KF. Ive recently purchased KF and really enjoy it. Its less "Hollywood" than L4D, is more claustrophobic in some areas as waves tend to come all at once.

Also, the advancement in levels isnt linear, but instead based on a RPG ish element of getting cash to upgrade and buy new weapons.

Its then a subjective case of which do you prefer, or as in my case, what do you prefer for what mood.

They are different feeling, and Im happy to have both L4D1+2 and KF in my steam collection for differing reasons. If you like good games, you'll enjoy KF even if you own L4D

Actually, the closest game I can think of to compare with Killing Floor is Counter-Strike with the buying weapons system. It's a kind of L4D survival style take on CS 1.6. I find L4D and KF to both be fun games that are definitely worth playing, but you need to play them with friends
