Hey,

I was thinking of firing up this tonight, but fancy applying a mod to it first. Has anyone here tried modding the game, and if so, what would you recommend?

Ta. :)

Don't recall there being any graphics/gameplay makeover type mods but I've not followed it in a long time.

Modding didn't really take off very well as it had some of the most horrendous coding ever seen - lots of stuff was "fixed" via hardcoding with 100s of lines of conditional if statements instead of adjusting and recompiling the map files, etc.

I had my hands on a load of the original dev material for the game due to being involved in a project that was started by people from team havoc but died due to most of them leaving to join silicon ice to work on urban terror instead. Theres loads of interesting stuff especially in regards to vehicles in there - given another say 6 months they'd have had something up and running similiar to GTA3 and a much more free roaming city.

Yeah, I understand it was a popular title in its day, but it didn't take me long to find out that I'm a bit late to the party. Some of the mechanics are poor, too. What engine is it using, Quake 2?

Edit : Might have been the wrong time line for Q2.

Yup Quake 2/idtech2 but with some additional features like light juniors and environment textures for metallic surfaces, etc. think they must have got some stuff ported over from daikatana as some of the extended engine features were exactly the same as what appeared in that game or might have been the other way around.

I enjoyed it a the time but I'd probably go replay max payne instead these days.
