Kit requirements for New York trip

Hi all,

Off to New York tomorrow with the girlfriend. She's got a little compact digital and I'll take a 10D.

Question is, I want to travel light, so only one lens for me. What to take?

I like street scenes and tend to shot at around the 35-40mm range, but that's covered by her compact. So do I go longer or wider?

definitely wide. As wide as you can!

Agree with the above, but you may want to consider packing a compact telephoto lens if you have one - for picking out details of the city when you're atop the Empire State Building

definately wide as you can! i went there in december last year and struggled with the 17-55 kit lens. A nice fast f/1.8 would do you nice for the evning shots there. Have fun, make sure you catch a hockey game while you are there

Cheers for the suggestions guys. I think I'll take a 17-40 and squeeze a fish eye in too if the G/F doesn't notice!
