Hey guys

Was wondering if anyone knows of some decent kitchen knives, as in very sharp ect.. had some kitchen devils and they are rubbish!

any info would be great...

cheers

The same brands will always come up, Global, Wusthof, Henkel, Sabatier, (Shun!), etc... It would help to know what your budget is and what knives you want.

Agree with the previous two comments, for home cooking a good 18-20CM chefs knife is far superior to a load of duff knives!

even if you think you need more, realistic you need a bread knife a paring or utility knife and a chefs knife anything more is just icing on the cake!

regarding chef knives you could go western or japanese, japanese is also called a gyuto and tends to be thinner in blade and width, but is not quite good at the rocking motion a western knife brings but tends to stay sharper for longer as they use a very hard metal for the knife core and dont get wedged so easily, just pop into a local department store to get an idea of the knife feel, this is very important.

Western= Henckels and wustorf
Japanese= Global and Shun

Sabatier is just a name not a knife brand like the above, anyone can add sabatier to their knife its not a trademark but a manufacturing process, so if you see a cheap sabatier, it is just that, a cheap crap knife.
I.e Many people recommend global, they are OK knives, however i just cant get on with its handle, prefering the pakkawood handle of my knife, so its "feel" sold me.

hey thanks, budget around £50 I would say.

£50 for a set? No way laddy.

For that you could probably get a victorinox chefs knife and a steel, maybe a paring knife also.
You'll also want to get them sharpened periodically 6mth-1 year is for most people, I sharpen my own but for most peoples purposes taking them down to the pro shop to get them sharpened it more practical.

20cm is the most common but if you have larger hands like me I say get a 26cm.
