Key issues: too little storage, poor cabling, and a bronze PSU (albeit Seasonic).

I'm not so sure about the storage issue: OCUK do need to make a profit. With regards to the poor cabling, it's principally at the back, but I'd like to see OCUK tidy up the GPU cabling by using some 180 degree power adapters.

He should have come to the forums and we would have helped spec up a more sensible system than that one. No PC with a 12900kf in it is going to be sensibly priced and 12700k is a much more sensible choice.

Took 5 mins to spec up a Sabre system and saves £300

My basket at OcUK:
  • 1 x OcUK Gaming Sabre - Intel 12th Gen i5, RTX 3070Ti Gaming PC (SKU: FS-1FA-OG) = £2,178.91
    • Case: 1 x Lian Li Lancool II Mesh C RGB Midi-Tower Case - Black
    • Processor: 1 x *Build* INTEL CORE I7-12700KF 3.60GHz Socket LGA1700 - TRAY
    • Graphics Card: 1 x *Build Stock* MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Ventus 3X OC PLUS LHR 10GB GDDR6X Graphics Card
    • Memory: 1 x Team Group Vulcan Z T-Force 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 PC4-25600C16 3200MHz Dual Channel Kit - Grey
    • M.2 Solid State Drive (SSD) 1 - Primary: 1 x WD Black SN850 1TB SSD M.2 2280 NVME PCI-E Gen4 Solid State Drive (WDS100T1X0E)
    • Operating System: 1 x Microsoft Windows 11 Home 64-Bit DVD - OEM (KW9-00632)

Total: £2,193.01 (includes delivery: £14.10)

I do agree the psu is substandard for a £2.5k system , should at least be 80+ gold like in the Sabre.

Plus for £30 quid more they could have vertically mounted the GPU which looks more impressive and works well in that case. No droopy GPU.

raises temps though so why do it.
everyone is going form over functionality these days.
people do crazy stuff to get a few degree lower temps and then vertically mount the gpu/put the pc on a desk nice and high up when the floor is cooler.

amateurs

I've built two systems with this style case and tested several GPUs up to a 3080 and temps were not greatly affected. Maybe the GPU fans ran 100 rpm higher but the airflow is good in that case.

Coincidentally my main system is one of the most functional cases out there but it is sat near the floor and no carpet so I'm with you there.

I've got a p600s which looks to be the same chassis and I read vertically mounting the gpu would raise it's temps around 4-10c.
I have a fat ass D15 cooler though that sits right next to my gpu so maybe I should try vertical mounting instead as the backplate on my gpu gets pretty toasty

The B12 isn't made by Seasonic, not sure if it would be better or worse than the kolink psus they usually come with, but I wouldn't buy one or be happy spending that much and getting one.

I was curious that I remembered correctly so I just ran Valley 1.0 & Far Cry 6 benchmarks on the RX 6600 in the system currently. Vertical, Horizontal then back to vertical.

Basically for FC6 both the Fan RPM (1175) & temps (59C) stayed the same. For Valley 1.0 the RPM dropped 5 RPM & temp 3C when vertically mounted.

So essentially no difference BUT the Valley results were 300 (3700 vs 4000) points or 5 fps (90 vs 95) better when horizontal and it repeated so I can only assume the PCI-E cable may have a very small affect on timings when stressed.

The RX 6600 had a fair amount of air around it when vertically mounted so this will be reduced as the GPU gets bigger.

To be honest, for that particular prebuilt, that was a pretty fair review imo.

I'd have picked up on the things like the bronze psu, lack of specifics and cables if I was reviewing it, hell I'd have issue if I was buying it with a bronze psu, that is one thing that should not be in a 2.5K system with a 3080 etc, simple as. The lack of specifics mean you could technically end up with a bottom of the barrel pcie 3 or a top of the line pcie 4 ssd without any comeback and those cables look worse than my first ever pc build (sorry whoever did them), they could have at least kept the cables off of the ssd mounts round back...

ain't no one seeing those cables and if they aren't blocking airflow it doesn't matter..
cable management should barely even be a thing now

without looking through tinted glasses, i think the points raised are perfectly valid imo, nothing wrong with making a decent margin, but i think better choice could have been made on a few parts, cable management isnt great but wouldn't bother me if im honest.

I don't think that was the point of it. He was targeting those who just buy ocuk's pre-built ones already specced up which for the
target audience that applies to. :) IMO as these are an advertisement for Ocuk they should do a better job with cable management - more care with the build at the least with potentially more care with one of their choice components.
