Just recieved an email from my brother in New Zealand- His housemate was at a petrol station when he saw something rustling in the bin next to the pumps... turns out some swine had dumped their kitten!!

Said friend found a box and managed to get the kitteh in and took it home. It has had all the whiskers cut off on the one side of its face and a small chunk is missing from the top of it's ear also.

My brother and mate 'think' it's a girl but it is so petrified when they approach it, it has resorted to living under the sofa for a few days and so aren't certain. They have managed to finally get it to come out for something to eat and a sniff of hands etc but it is so nervous they are giving it a bit of distanced love for the time being.

'She' is very young, pure estimation of about 4/5weeks old and I think they're speaking to vets to see if she needs any suppliments as she is away from 'mummycat' etc.

Anyway- here are some pics of when she was out from under the sofa... poor little thing.

Luckily my brother and friend are animal lovers and will give this cat a great life from now on, but how can people be so cruel? :(

I for one vote for it to be christened "Oscar", as in oscar the dustbin dwelling grouch :D

Why are you sure it was dumped?

It could just be separated from its mother who is feral. This happens all the time.

Of course this could well have happened but it leads to questioning of how an eight-inch-high kitten managed to get into a petrol station bin in what can arguably be classed as "the middle of bloody nowhere"

Is she a tortoiseshell? I can't really tell from the pics, but I ask because they are almost exclusively female, according to wiki. Would help determine the gender a bit more surely.

It certainly looks to be a possibility, although at such a premature age it could be difficult getting a certainty :)

He'll be sending more pics when the cat is more comfortable which I'll upload here in due cause :)

UPDATES!!!!/HOLY THREAD REVIVAL BATMAN!!!

For those of you remember this thread, I am pleased to bring you good news about the young kitten my brother has adopted after finding it in a petrol station bin!

For the first few weeks the month old kitten barely emerged from it's security blanket under the sofa, yet my brother has managed to coerse the terrified little moggy into consistant, regular feeding and using the litter tray.

Terrified of human contact, the young kitteh would hiss and spit at anyone entering the room whilst attempting to dart back to the under-sofa-nest. This determination to attain clandestine status lead (against all my objections and suggestions of Oscar- "I don't care she's a girl, she was found in a bin!") to her naming of "Heidi" :)

After studying up on sensitive training methods, my brother has successfully brought the cat to a substantial level of trust with him and his flatmate and the once terrified, shy, shaking little hissy mc'spit is now a curious, playful, affectionate little kitteh! :D

I'm delighted to enclose some photos which (when viewed in comparison to the OP) start to reflect the transformation and development, which is at the successful start of what will hopefully be a wonderful life story for little Heidi. :)
