KLF / Burning a Million £

I'm not sure if this should be in music or here.

But last night I was listening to dodgy dance music and was told a band called KLF burt a million pound for a laugh.

Yep, they were a good band too and from what I can rembember they were gutted a while afterwards when they sobered up & realised what they did

I like one of the more recent rumours about them; that Pete Doherty is nothing but a KLF puppet.

The truth is some box office films cost significantly more than a million pounds to make and never see any of that back due to lack of success. So that's as good as destroying a million pounds on a fire, just without the artistic intent. : )

I love that one too its great, and due to how fickle the music world is, plausible!

there was a documentary about this and apparantly it was only around about 100k that got burnt.

They also nailed half (or was it a quarter) of a million to a bit of chipboard and called it an art exhibit to have a pop at the Art world. then there was the classic '1994 K Foundation award for the worst artist of the year', which iirc, was won by the woman who one the 1993 Turner prize? She turned down the 40 grand prize money though. They pulled some fine ones. Though, I would argue, the true pranksters of the nineties were Altern8.

If I remember right they didn't actually burn a million, it was a lot less and they thought they were going to get loads of media attention and got none.

Something about driving about in a tank with a massive soundsystem rings a bell too. And didnt they right a book on becoming a pop artist? Prob what Docherty read.
