We're flying with KLM in a week and we're only taking hand luggage the cases are within the max size however one case weighs 13.5kg but KLM's max is 12kg, do airlines weigh hand luggage ?

As this is going to be the first time we will be getting a plane without needing to drop off any bags for hold luggage if we check in online I take it we can just go straight to security with our printed boarding pass therefore the cases will not be able to be weighed by KLM ?

Some airlines do, yes.

Austrian Airlines for example - they have a weighing station just before security and randomly hoik people in to check the weight of their hand luggage.
I travel with KLM quite a lot and have never had hand luggage weighed.

I've travelled with KLM a bit and in my experience like above it's random - I've seen them take people aside to do additional checks and/or weigh luggage but never had it happen to me. I suspect a lot will depend on appearances if you are struggling to move it, etc.

Thanks for the replies I will chance it and hope I don't get stopped !

I would suggest you make contingency that if it does, will it survive in the hold, or are your pockets big enough to take the weight to make your bag to be under the limit.

Flown loads with only hand luggage and never had it weighed once, not to say that you might not be so lucky.

I think if it's within size and doesn't look like it weighs a ridiculous amount you'll probably be alright :)
