Finally finished my C2D setup this morning and mostly everything is fine (I need to figure out why it won't POST with 2x2GB sticks and BIOS is mind boggling). The hard drive though seems to be making unhealthy noises everytime it accesses something. Now I've read Seagate FAQ and it mentions that clicking noises are normal when it accessing. I made a video (10 seconds in I started HD tune quick scan) and surely that can't be classed as normal? I've ran it through the long test of Seatools and it passes and I've removed the jumper than limits it to 1.5Gb/s performance (can this have something to do with it?). Rest of the spec is:

E2140 (stock need to figure out this BIOS, things have moved on since Barton days)
2GB OCZ PC1000 stuff
Asus Maximus Formula
Seagate Barracude 7200.11 500GB
8800GTS 640MB

You havent linked the video properly. But yes, barracuda drives are some of the loudest out there. So noisy I wont buy a seagate drive again unless its been confirmed its as quiet as samsung drives. It also depends on the noise made by the rest of your system.

Should clarify, that grinding type noises are normal, but clicking definitely isnt.

edit: heres an acoustic analysis of one of the first perpendicular drives releasd by seagate

34dbA under heavy load can be unbearable as the sound isnt particularly pleasant either. You can use the soundclips at the bottom to compare as well.

recently on my segate hard drives, cant remember which model, not .11 might of been 8 or 9 but with 2 of my hard drives i bought 3.5 years ago, they started making this loud clicking sound.

Ive had problems booting into windows a lot of the time. With one hard drive windows pretty much spammed me with hard drive errors :p

When i ran seatools, it normally restarts / bsod's. When i emailed their tech support they said rma the drives. The noise didnt sound healthy at all.

Ah apologies messed up with my url links, right link in now. The noise has actually gotten a lot better all of a sudden, still get clicking sound but a lot quieter. Thing also seems to run a good 10C hotter than my other IDE Seagate and Hitachi did and when I look in the health tab there are 4 things called unknown attribute and Spin Retry Count are highlighted in yellow? Still it passed the seatools long test, HD tune reports health status as ok and scans it fine. Guess it's just a bloody loud drive then.
