KNackered laptop!

My friend has a simens amilo pro laptop. He accidently left it on standby for hours 10>. when he came back to it, it had froze so he rebooted and know the thing wont boot into windows it constantly reboots itself after the log on screen. cant do a safe mode boot either. Is it easy to reset his bios or is there anything else anyone can suggest?? thnx in advance

I have an Amilo A 1630 laptop, after puting it into standby it now fails to boot/run properly.

Occasionally if left for a longtime I can get onto Desktop but windows XP crashes after about 5 mins. From then on the bios claims that the IDE harddrive is not detected.

Is this harddrive failure or something else.
If it is, is it straightforward to replace it with
