First game of the Vet season and apparently my body has decided for the fire time to crumble. God only know what I did but it felt like I nearly dislocated my knee, maybe an LCL injury.

I'm looking for advice on some sort of support so it doesn't happen again once it's healed.
There's plenty (obviously) around that I can Google but I have no idea really what to look for.

Probably need support with side to side movement rather than up and down. Strength in the join in turning is the key..

Are expensive ones just a waste of time? They range from £10 to 100s.

I don't plan wearing it forever, just during football, I doubt at my age my knee will ever get back to 100% so I'd assumed rightly or wrongly that having support would fill the gap once I can get back to a close as normal as possible.

I will be doing some exercise to help once the sharp pain feelings subside. I suspect I didn't fully tear the LCLs because I have a decent range of motion after a week, however I think I'll be out of football for another 2 weeks minimum..
I've bought a support with small metal hinges as a test to help when I go back to training. I won't rely on it, but if it's comfortable it's better to have it than not..
It needs hinges to stop it twisting, as like has been said, compression ones are not strong enough.
Hopefully after some time I will not need it.

If I see no improvement inside of a few weeks I will consult a physio.
