Looking for a 5 piece set including block, preferably a wooden block for around £100 just the usual knifes nothing special needed. Are the Richardson Sheffield Neo 5 any good? I appreciate there will be a few Global users on here but its way out of my budget and also not required as i dont cook hugely just after a set to last 6 years plus.

have a look in TK Max they sell some very decent sets at good prices.

just be careful as Sabatier is a style of knife and not a brand name i.e. Setllar Sabatier knives are made by stellar.

i got a set of stellar sabatier knives from there for around £70 and they did me great until i started forking out the cash for Global

my advice is not to buy a set.

instead buy one good shef knife, it will do 95% of what you need

if you anything else , maybe a bread knife and /or a parring knife

I use one knife for pretty much everything, a good old 20cm cooks knife.

A paring knife is a good addition, other than that, I wouldn't bother.

This is very true. I find I use three knives almost exclusively.

I use a 16cm Robert Welch filleting knife a hell of a lot. And never for filleting - that's what a fishmonger is for :D

As others have said, you don't need a set. A good size chefs knife and a paring knife will cover 95% of all kitchen tasks.

I have a chef knife and a paring knife only. Have never felt that I was missing anything else.

Get a couple of Victorinox knives and save the rest.
