Hiya,

Looking to get my mum a new set of knives for mother's day and wondering if anyone has any recommendations on makes/models?

Needs to be something I can get from the highstreet tomorrow and cost no more than £60 for a set of 5. Would consider buying less knives for the same money if it meant getting better quality

Thanks peeps,

Andy

Thanks for the suggestions. Think we may go with AcidHell's idea of getting one nice knife to start with, as my sister's just mentioned that there's a cookbook she's after as well.

There's a few reasonable looking block sets out there but they seem to be £75 upwards, which is out of our price range unfortunately.

Has anyone used Henckel knives before? John Lewis do them and they;re the same sort of price as Sabatier and Global, but some of the Amazon reviews suggest that they're not actually that great unless you buy the "Pro" range.

Thatnks for the TK Maxx reminder Wez! Had completely forgotten that they have a huge range of knives in there. Annoyingly the nearest store is a 20min drive away tho (I say annoyingly because I live a 5 minute walk from the centre of Portsmouth!). What the hell though..its for mothers day after all :)

Well I've just got back from TK Maxx. Ended up paying £40 for a set of 5 Sabatier knives with an RRP of £120:

They didn't have a great choice up there really (Unless you want Anthony Warral Thompson knives for £9.99) but these will do nicely.

Thanks for everyones help.
