May sound a bit weird but I want to learn how to knit. Just wondering if anyone has advice on somewhere I can learn to knit and teaches how to make beanie hats. Would like to be able to make my own and for friends. Just like these but add my own designs colours and stuff....

I just received one from someone I met traveling, she made it and sent it all the way from Australia. It's bloody cool!!

Also where is cheapest to buy the kit to do it! As to anyone who is going to call me gay and whatever, don't bother posting.

Gay? My granny knits, shes 86...

On a more helpful note i think there are dedicated knitting shops that sell everything you need. Probably wont be that expensive

Needles + Wool + You can get instructions for each thing you want to knit

(My nan has different things for jumpers etc she makes my sister, she made me some mittens with hobo gloves underneath before :D )

Thanks, call it gay, take the **** but I just want to learn to make the hats. There a lot better than the crap you get in shops.

To whoever has been serious yeah I'll check google for sites like this, but I more so want help as to learning how to do it and make the hats.

The very best place to get stuff for knitting is in your local charity shop where you will find cheap needles, wool and patterns. I would imagine that you will also find a kindly soul there who will teach you to knit too. It is a lot easier to learn from someone than from a book or web site as you will get good tips on tension, casting on etc.

For specific patterns for your beanie, though, you may have to get a new one from a department store or knitting / sewing shop, although there may be stuff on line too. You need to be able to understand the instructions as, although there are only 2 stitches to learn, there are many ways of putting them together and this will all be in a weird shorthand that only knitters understand. :D

BTW, knitting definately isn't for gays as they would never be able to get enough tension on the wool. ;)

how so ?

one in shops are either made my machines that knit perfectly or by kids/women in far away lands who make hundreds every week. how is one you make going to be better ? :S
I just mean the designs and stuff, I didn't mean the quality of them... the ones my friend from Austria made are all unique and different, the colours/design nothing like in the shops.

I use this shop, I generally find they are much cheaper than normal wool shops and delivery is quick. Spend £10 and delivery is free. They do have one kit here that looks to have everything that you need. If you like the design all you need to do is buy more wool. They do have other hat/beanie patterns but I'm lazy so you'll need to look through the patterns :p :) Loads of different wools to choose from too (just make sure you get the right type).
