I'm looking into buying some decent knives because the one knife we have is shocking!

I've heard Global knives are good so had a quick look and found this set which seems pretty good as it is on offer.

Are there any other knives worth looking at?

Cheers.

IO Shen! :D

I was looking into some new knives about 6 months ago, I had originally been set on a set of Globals but tried the IO Shens and fell for them instead! :)

Go to a shop and see if you like to feel of them. Personally I dislike Globals, Henckel get my vote, but if you're looking for something that costs less then Stellar Sabatier (there's many variations of Sabatier's) and Victorinox have served me good. You don't need a 10 piece set, just a decent Chefs, Bread and Paring knife.
The best paring knife I've got was a 3 inch Victorinox, the blade is flexible so good for segmenting fruit and peeling, extremely sharp when I purchased it and held that for a while... and cost £3.

[edit] Just saw your budget, I would go with Henckels.

Thats what I did, couldn't justify a set when I wouldn't use half of them! Ended up getting a large IO Shen chefs and paring knife. Wanted to get a bread knife but couldn't afford it at the time.. Thats my next purchase! :)

Please try holding a global before buying. They are for kids hands ;)

I have one chopper and a bread knife.

About 9 1/2 inch blade.

Buy an asda cheapo and learn to sharpen it correctly. Then spen real cash.

If you can't master sharpening then buy a butter knife ;)

The reason I was thinking of buying a set is mainly because of the knife holder. I don't want to put expensive knives in the drawer and have them knock around/rub against things and have them ruined.
