Hi

I like to treat myself to a nice bottle of whisky every now and again , last time I got myself Ardbeg 10 which I'm still yet to find something that can beat it in that price bracket.

I also got a bourbon Wild Turkey 101 which was ok , Ive been checking out reviews of the Knob Creek 9yo , which I think is a Jim Beam product.

Has anyone tried it and what do they think?

I don't plan on mixing Bourbon unless its the cheap stuff like JD as Knob Creek is slightly more expensive i would drink it neat or with a few cubes of ice.

thanks:)

Is it the one that you find in a lot of bars?

It's quite nice. I'm a fan of bourbon (though can not stand JD), and whilst I haven't bought a lot of it (I'd rather buy whisky) I do like to get one or two if a bar is stocking anything I haven't had/seen before.

I can't remember how it tastes really, beyond me being a fan of it.

Yeah I was thinking about Woodford Reserve as its a similar price , may try that next although I do have Monkey Shoulder to try as well as I've heard good things about that.

Makers Mark is another one but that seems like a more mass produced JD alternative.

cheers

By the way , me being a fairly newbie bourbon drinker ,how do you drink it?

I normally like any whisky neat or a bit of ice with Bourbon?

thanks

Yep, usually neat with ice for me.

Unless I'm looking to get wrecked on something cheap, then it's ice and cola. ;)

I'd also recommend trying Four Roses bourbon if you can find it. Very nice stuff and reasonably priced. Sits somewhere between Maker's Mark (ie. a bit better than JD) and Woodford Reserve in terms of quality.

Bourbon can be quite nice with a slice of lime rubbed around the rim of the glass and then chucked in with the bourbon.

Knob Creek is an okay drink - add a load of ice*, and it's quite enjoyable. However, I think you can do better for the same money.

* - counter-intuitively if you don't want to water your drink you should add more ice not less.

Woodford, Knob Creek, Makers Mark & Bullit are all perfectly passable neat drinking or posh mixing bourbons. Jim Beam is my usual mix bourbon for everyday use.

ah so many!

still I might as well try them all eventually.

On a side note I do sometimes like to mix with coke but only cheaper stuff like Jack Daniels or Jim Beam.

Out of them what would you say is best with cola? , want something that I can get my hands on easy down the supermarket

cheers

I'd say that choice is up to you. I tend to always drink my bourbon with a splash of cola - even the expensive stuff. For me, it's a flavour enhancer and not something that spoils the bourbon or should be drunk exclusively with the cheap stuff.

A decent cola helps though. And Fentimans is league's ahead of the competition on that front.
