Well Title sais it all....

I have an XFX 7800GT with stock fan...

My temps WERE....

Idle = 53oC
Load = 66oC

I Have just applied AS5 to the Ram and the Core...

Idle = 37oC-38oC
Load = 51oC

So 11oC - 12oC off on the idle temps..and 15oC off the load temps..

Just shows you how rubbish the thermal paste is on this stock cooler..

I reccommend people in the same boat as me to do the same... its a big difference :)

Nice, did it improve your overclocks? if any?

I usually do this to a card when i buy it, most of the time just to see the state of their attempt! lol. :D

Erm, as far as i know youre not sposed to use AS5 on RAM, its not good for it. Tell me if im wrong but i'm sure ive heard that.

I also replaced the dodgy white thermal compound on my 7800gtx with the latest silver compound, although my temps are still the same :(

stock cooling, used to have 80mm fan over heatsink but made no difference.
idle=56c
load=115c without 120mm fan blowing out over graphics cards (get kicked out of games with a warning my cards are being clocked down)
load=85c with 120mm fan blowing out over graphics cards

The Aopen cards will not clock at all over 450c 1.25m, tried water cooling with a reserator but would not run at defaul then :confused:

tower has good ventillation too, my 7800's are hot cookies

Just don't get it on any conductors, though RAM cooling is fairly pointless on these cards eitherway.

No I didn't get it on the conducters :) Thanks for pointing that out

Did you clean the core properly with acetone or isopropyle alcohol?

The 7800's just get really hot and the 120mm fan blowing out / off the cards blows out hot air when playing games, the CPU dont get hot as its water cooled.
Maybe my Aopen 7800's are poor chips & should be clocked at 430 not 450 at stock, though I recon they would still be hot.

Isn't Aopen cards from BFG and XFX etc... the bad clocking ones etc...

i had some stock cooler on my 7800 gtx went up to 80oC at load and it does go over 40oC now at load with some as5 and w/c on them

I recon if the graphics card heatsink is getting hot then thats good as it shows the GPU is dumping the heat onto the heatsink and so a there's a good GPU/heatsink contact.
