Hey guys, Im getting a strange knocking noise from underneath my 1.8 Focus when my foot is off the accelerator. It sounds like something is caught in the driveshaft and is hitting the underneath of the car with every revolution it makes? But it only makes this noise when there is no power being applied. When I am accelerating there is no noise at all. Any ideas? Cheers.

Dead engine mount I reckon. Perished rubber, metal banging on metal. Only thing you can do now is take the engine out, overbore, some serious headwork and cams and get it solid mounted. Otherwise it'll just happen again.

^^ I'll go with this although it's always hard to diagnose problems even when the car is in front of you let alone doing it on a few lines of text.
Will book it in tomorrow then!I thought it might have been a CV joint but my guesstimates arent usually very accurate? Is it something that needs to be addressed asap?
I know, sorry, I tried to be as "to the point" as possible without writing an essay on the type of noise.

a) Know that your car is fine when you're driving at 70mph at night in the rain?
b) Have a big truck hit you when you try to pull out at a junction and lose all drive to your wheels?
c) Watch your wheel accelerate away from you when you brake?

Could just be gearbox run-over... I can hear this in my car pretty much whenever I'm not on the gas.
You can test if it's coming from any of the transmission components by getting it to make the noise and then dipping the clutch and/or putting it into neutral. Just make sure it's a safe straight stretch of road first...

It starts as soon as I come off the gas regardless of the clutch being dipped. But it will only do it whilst on the move.
Your point being?
