Knocking Sound When Braking?

Hi all,

My Citroen C2 is making a knocking noise which knocks as the wheels rotate if that makes sense, so the faster I am going the closer the knocks are together. This only happens under light braking though if I press them hard there is no noise. Another strange thing is this doesnt happen until the car is warmed up, so first thing on a morning there is no knocking. Also might be worth mentioning the brakes seem to stick on sometimes so if im on a slight hill the car doesnt roll back.

It has recently had new disks and pads and both front wheel bearings replaced but this noise is getting worse and worse. The car also knocks sometimes on full lock to the left.

My dad has had the car jacked up and the brakes to bits, gave them a good clean up which stopped them from sticking on for a few days but the knocking was still there.

Im open for any suggestions before I take this down to my local garage?

Thanks, Sam

I would say CV joints are the prime suspect, but they usually make a sound when turning, not braking, as far as I know. My other thought would be loose pads, or something caught between pad and disk, but if you've had the brakes apart and cleaned up, then maybe not.

Replaced the brake pads today with more expensive pagid ones and the knocking isnt there anymore, for now anyway

I had something similar that also turned out to be brake related.

Was actually done when I had pads changed at a local garage. The disc must have got knocked dislodged during the work and that allowed debris to fall behind the disc meaning it was no longer mounted square. As it rotated it would rythmically knock/rub against the pad and this would get worse as it got hotter.

Once myself and a mate figured out the cause we pulled the disc off, fully cleaned the contacting faces of the hub and disc and remounted it. After that the issue was gone! :)
