Knoppix - On DVD or CD

Well, in theory the CD should be a little faster due to the drive speed, but really there is no noticable difference, as everything is swapped onto a RAMDISK as necessary.
Basically do you want/ need the extra apps on the DVD- If not then use the CD.

DVDs are faster than CDs...

1x CD = 150 kilobytes per second
1x DVD = 1352 kilobytes per second

48x CD = 7200KB/s
16x DVD = 21632KB/s

You obviously aren't going to max out the speed of a CD or DVD for any real period of time (if at all) running a live desktop, but it's pretty obvious DVD is faster.

Hi there,

Couple of Questions of about knoppix.

Am I able to set up my netgear wireless network usb adapter WG111T with it so I can use internet?

If so how?

Also, Am I able to install Knoppix on a hard drive? If so how?

Thanks....

Open a command prompt and type one of the following:

knx-hdinstall
knoppix-installer

I forget which one it is. If one doesn't work, try the other.

Hi there,

I have managed to get the installer up, but how do I choose which hard drive to install it too. How do i?

Also, I am unable to move files between hard drives.....why is this....is it because i am running it live off the cd?

Thanks

Does installing Knoppix onto a HDD give you more applications than if you were to run it of the CD?

Also,

I'm trying to install it on to a HDD that was previously in my USB Caddy which was used on windows.

Its saying that its unable to use this hdd, and I dont know how to format it in LINUX. Does anyone know where i go about makign this HDD suitable for LINUX?

thansk
