I've had this laptop for around 4 or 5 months now and other than the stuck pixel that was there(and still is, shame its a nice screen) the first time i booted it up i've had no snags with it.

Soon after i first bought it i noticed one of the vents leading into the fans on the back looked like it was obstructed. I assumed it was just me being me and the fan casing was metal on one side and black plastic on the other. Afterall both fans were pushing air out and i could hear both of them running. Throughout the time i have had this laptop it has got pretty darn hot on more than one occasion but never enough for it to shut itself down(im assuming the case would have to melt for that to happen:D) so again i assummed that the heat was just normal.

It wasn't untill my curiosity got the better of me today that i finally decided to have a bit of a poke around inside. As soon as i took all the screws out for the detachable back plate i could see the the whole time ive had it there was a thin plastic sheet blocking one of the intake vents up. I have taken the sheet out as i cant see a reason for it being there.

Is there any reason why this would be in place or was it just a mistake made by one of the people assembling my laptop? The fan the plastic was blocking goes to the cpu which ive noticed doesnt always spin.

This is a Clevo decision and I do not understand why they chose to do it. Everybody I know removed it and it dropped the temps by a large margin.

Why I do not understand that they did this is because its big brother (the W870CU 17") does not have the blocked vent. they could have put it in to force more airflow through the other air vents and decrease other components temps but as it severely inhibits the CPU's airflow it seems crazy to me

What do Kobalt say?

I am going to ring them today, i need to extend my warranty anyway. I guess they support the idea of the plastic being left in the laptop for reasons ninja stated otherwise it wouldnt be there. I dont think i will be putting it back in whatever they say.

ive got a G860...which fan is it that is covered up. As ive noticed on the botom there is two fan vents and one of the vents is pulling in air as it collects dust in that area...the other one doesnt collect any dust..maybe mines is the same?

I 'think' it was the cpu side that was covered(the side with the serial number sticker)

It would be obvious as without the cover you can see a metallic rim around each of the fans. With a cover on all you can see is black.

Basically if the inside of the vents on both sides at the bottom dont look the same, you've got a cover.

Just spoke to kobalt and they said unless your cpu is overheating keep the piece of plastic in. They said they take it out with the 920's, presumably because they produce more heat
