ok Back story here... my car has made a knocking pop when hitting holes, lumps bumps from the drives side for ages now, so i took some time off did the top mounts and bearings.. didn't help...

Had a garage where i used to work do some work on the front end (lazy yes i know) anti-roll bar mounts, bushes on the lower arms...

didn't help

i've just finished putting on a shortened anti-roll bar drop links (as the garage advised me i needed them, as well as new top mounts ?!?!)

how ever the pop is still there, having a quick look under the car i saw this site which JUST AIN'T RIGHT !!!!

These are the old ones that came off... looks like someone wrapped the drivers side one in metal then welded it together ?!?!

There are more pics including how low the car is (not that low on 18's)

but i have had the front lower arm rear bushes done not more than 2 weeks ago, top mounts 4 weeks ago, and just finished the top links

saying that tho doesn't that first photo just look WRONG ?!?!? (and now it's not threaded LOL it looked fine before i dropped the car to the ground)
 
hmmm what brand were teh new bushes and top mounts that went in, do you know?

the rear beam bushes will be at the end of their useful life after that sort of age, but the knock obviously comes from the back
 
it's deff the front with the noise..
The top mounts were from the same place the garage get there bits from, not official VW i think bosh or some other make in a black box and red writing and lettering on it, tho i do that the receipt ( some where in my car )

Again tho, does the top pic look ok to any one ?!? cause it doesn't to me !
 
:rolleyes: Yer that was me.... i disconnected the Anti-roll bar to see if the knocking stopped..... and didn't really think about the drive shaft hitting it... Oppps

Tho i'm thinking take back to garage let them look at it... means less beer tokens for me but less messing about and poss driving an unsafe car

nar that the anti-roll bar drop link, sorry i was relating my issues to a old post where we found that the dog bone was helped by a bit off wood...
 
it's spanking new... and at the same angle as the old ones (that came off the car) both side are like that !! and shes not even that low..
