Probably a daft question.
I've been given an Apple TV2 and asked if I can put Kodi on it.
I know this is possible, but, before I do it, does the TV2 need to be Jailbroken or not?

Some references say yes, and some instructions make no mention of it.

From reading the instructions, it looks to me as though it needs to be jailbroken although as you say, it doesn't actually specify that. Try it! If it doesn't work on a non jailbroken unit then you'll know the answer :)

Yep, definitely needs jailbreaking.

I had an older version of Kodi on my ATV2 and it was ok but quite sluggish.

That might have been resolved with more recent updates but I also have a thought at the back of my head that they dropped support for ATV2 a while ago, so thee's no guarantee the latest build will work at all.

Thanks both.
No, it doesn't work, so I think it definitely needs jailbreaking.
I cannot get as far as the SSH connection even.

They have indeed stopped supporting the ATV2 with the latest builds, but the guy just wanted to give it a go and I am the only one with a Mac in the office!

I did this on my old ATV2 when they went skywards in value due t the 3's not being JB'able.

Yes you have to jailbreak it and then you can install Kodi. It runs like a shed though!

I sold mine for double its original RRP and bought both an ATV3 and a Pi so I could have a good Apple experience and a good Kodi experience.
